Venice

Venice is 12 miles south of downtown Sarasota. The city of Venice includes what locals call “Venice Island”, a portion of the mainland that is accessed via bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway. Venice has a population of 25,000 people. Many people view Venice as an “off-shoot” of the city of Sarasota, but Venice is quite different from the sophisticated feel that Sarasota owns.

Downtown Venice has Northern Italian architecture and beautiful boulevards. It has a very quaint feel. Most of the metropolitan area of Venice is walkable and close to the beaches. Although the beaches are not sugary white like the barrier island beaches of Sarasota, there are several beaches in and around Venice and each has a unique beauty that should not be missed.

Home prices in Venice Island

Home prices in Venice are typically lower than the ones in Sarasota. Although the public schools of Venice are rated lower than Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota schools, they are still quite good. Venice also has a variety of neighborhoods and master-planned communities for people to choose from – Wellen Park being the largest master-planned community that has shopping, a hotel, and new downtown.

My clients whom I found homes for in Venice love that it is not as populated as Sarasota and is much closer to many beaches than Lakewood Ranch is. There are condos on the beach, single-family homes on the quaint boulevards, and larger homes in the master plan golf and tennis communities. Venice is conveniently located between 2 great airports – Fort Meyers and Sarasota. The Dockside Waterfront Grill is a nice location for an early dinner and a good cocktail.
